Film/Theatrical Rights
Please refer questions regarding film or theatrical rights to: rights@groveatlantic.com.

Foreign Rights: Subsidiary Rights
A "subsidiary right" is the right to use material from a book in any format other than the original US edition of the English-language hardcover book. This includes formats such as paperbacks, large print editions, audio books, theatrical adaptations, translated editions, etc. These rights must be formally authorized by Grove/Atlantic.

If you are a rights seeker who falls under any of the categories listed below, please inquire with Grove/Atlantic's subsidiary rights department at subrights@groveatlantic.com:
  • A book publisher inquiring after book publication rights in the UK or British Commonwealth, or after US paperback publication rights
  • A screenwriter, playwright, producer, or director (amateur or professional; television, film, or stage) inquiring after dramatic adaptation rights or performance rights (FYI: dramatic adaptation rights and performance rights are often controlled by the author's literary agency, so we will probably refer you there.)
  • Requesting the right to print an excerpt from a book that has not yet been published, "first serial rights") or from a recently-published books, "second serial rights" (excerpt requests involving books published more than two years ago should be directed to the Permissions Department).
  • Seeking other subsidiary rights, such as book club, audiobook, or large print publication rights, or the right to reproduce a cover or interior image.
  • If you are unsure of request’s classification or have another question about the rights to a Grove/Atlantic title.
All inquiries must include:
  1. full title of the book
  2. full name of the author
  3. the page numbers of the portion that you would like to use (unless you are asking to use the entire book)
  4. the manner in which you would like to use the material (please be as specific as possible)
  5. your name, address, phone number, and fax number
